Guoguang Elementary School



I. Capital Expenditure There are two projects being undertaken, ˇ§improving the interiorˇ¨ and ˇ§energy saving and managing protocolsˇ¨. (1) improving the interior Classrooms on the west wing of the fourth floor of PiaoXiang Building are directly exposed to sun glare. We set up mobile sunshades for the windows of the west wing that can be adjusted accordingly to the angle of sun glare. By doing so, we can effectively block the sun glare as well as ventilate the interior of classrooms. Moreover, the fourth floor is the attic. The sun beating down on the attic causes indoor temperature to rise to uncomfortable levels. Studentsˇ¦ spirits become lower and learning in class becomes less efficient. Hence, we plan to set up knitted sun shade net on the north half of the attic for insulation. On the south half we plan to pile up the recycled floor mats and interlocking bricks also for insulation. These two measures can both solve the problem of the heat inside the classrooms effectively. (2) energy saving design and monitoring measures We examine the current usage and circuit of the lighting in classrooms and offices in the YuXiang Building.We take into account the actual usage so that we can cut down the unnecessary use, save more energy and reduce co2 emission. 2. After allocating the money to the above mentioned projects the remainder goes to the optimizing project for lights. We plan on replacing T8 and T9 lighting tubes with T5 tubes. We are changing in total 36 lamps in 2 specialized classrooms and 3 lamps in 1 restroom. By improving the luminous efficacy of the area, we can reach the goal of energy saving and reduce carbon emission. II. Current Expenditure 1. We promoted Sustainable Campus Education in the Education Volunteer Summit of the school on September 24th, 2013. We brought forward the concept of environmental development and sustainability to parents, volunteers, and also to the community. 2. We promoted Sustainable Campus Education in the PTA meeting on September 28th, 2013. We brought forward the concept of environmental development and sustainability to the parents and then to the community. 3. We promoted Sustainable Campus Education in the teacherˇ¦s meeting on October 1st, 2013. We brought forward the concept of environmental development and sustainability to our teachers, and they to the students. 4. We held the Lectures on Sustainable Campus for Teachers on October 23rd, 2013, and hired instructors from outside of the school to give lectures. 5. We held the Lectures on Sustainable Campus for Teachers and Students on November 4th, 2013 featuring our own campusˇ¦s environmental sustainability. 6. We gave a detailed demonstration and promotion for our projects ˇ§improving the interiorˇ¨ and ˇ§energy saving and managing protocolsˇ¨. With the assistance of five undergraduates from the university of education, we had more than ten classes participating this activity.
