Chiu-Cheng Primary School

As global warming is a rising crisis that people around the world have to face and deal with, our school propose a sustainable campus project based on energy saving & carbon reduction. Main actions taken are as follows:

Sunlight is a green energy, clean and pollution-free. The conversion of sunlight into electricity is one of the best examples of energy saving & carbon reduction. There are two types of solar power on our campus. Solar panels are located on the buildingˇ¦s roof at a tilt angle of facing south for better performance. Such power conversion acts as a part of our schoolˇ¦s green efforts and helps cut our electricity bills. The other one is solar tracking panel. These panels orient toward the sun to maximize the energy collected. The energy then is converted into electricity and kept in solar cells for street lighting after dark.

Though most students come from farming families, only a few of them have real farming experience. Therefore, we come up with the interactive farming on the campus. We plan to turn our campus into a big farm integrating ecology into education. Moreover, we hope this project can be applicable not just to our campus but also to our neighboring schools.

Rainwater is the best gift from heaven and of vital importance in peopleˇ¦s daily life. Our rainwater recycling system collects rainwater and then supplies toilet flushing and campus irrigation. The reuse of rainwater can also reduce surface runoff and prevent flooding on the campus.

We take our campus as a living example and teaching aid for our eco education, one that students can explore in the environment, not in the textbooks. We hope we can connect our school with other local schools and communities and develop our sustainable campus project into a bigger one, a closely knit web of green education that can encompass every aspect of studentsˇ¦ life.
