Jing-Liau Elementary School

Our school is located in Houbi (後壁) Township. We enjoy abundant cultural heritage from the neighboring sites, such as a water park, Jinliao Catholic Church (Est. 1962), museums, Jingliau village, Molin (墨林) village, old streets, and the old house of the Ruan Family (阮家古厝).

We have been paying special attention to our eco education and established close connection with Taiwan Endemic Species Research Institute and Tainan National University of the Arts. We are trying to form a partnership to promote sustainable development for schools.

This year we did not apply for any sustainable development funding. Instead, we turned to lay the emphasis on our eco education. We began to exchange our green experience with other schools, institutes and local communities. Under such mutual-benefit cooperation, we came to realize the deeper meaning of sustainability for a school’s development.

The past months have seen us look back on our previous sustainable campus projects. We took up this opportunity to closely examine the gains and loss for our former green plans, and try to set up new direction for future development.

Our sustainable campus team is trying to establish a new platform for our members to further discuss how to push sustainability deeper into students’ family and local communities, and how to form a larger consensus between our partners. We believe sustainability does not mean the change of a campus only; rather, it aims to change people’s mind toward a greener environment.
