Nan Kwang has been working with local schools on jointing sustainable campus projects since 2009. Hsin-Tung Elementary School (新東國小), Liu-Ying Elementary School (柳營國小), Jing-Liao Elementary School (菁寮國小), Hou-Pi Senior High School (後壁高中), and Tainan National University of the Arts (台南國立藝術大學) are all our partners.
In 2011 and 2012, we encouraged student clubs to brainstorm new ideas on certain green issues, such as rainwater recycling, reuse of healthy material, sustainable campus, etc. Sustainability is not just about school development, however it is more important to arouse students eco consciousness and to recruit a group of green volunteers.
Through our eco education and student activities, we hope both students and teachers can have better understanding of current green issues.Apart from our eco courses, some student clubs even organized their own sustainable campus projects and presented their works of landscape architecture.
We also opened a 3-Day Workshop on Nan Kwang Back Garden. Besides, we were invited to join the neighboring schools green camps and workshops, e.g. Liu-Ying Elementary School, Ere Si Elementary School (?G·E°e?p), and Hsin-Tung Elementary School. It is not until this year that we first put eco education into our regular courses.
Permeable paving and rainwater recycling, for example, were taught in several chapters of high school!|s science education. Certain green issues would be discussed in and promoted to primary schools!| courses: environment protection and eco-balancs, water and land, sustainable Earth, water recycling, gardening and environment, and global warming. We hope these green actions can help arouse students green conscience in their daily life.
We are truly grateful to every assistance from our partners and the valuable advice from the professors. We believe it is our obligation to share these green experiences with other schools and local communities, so that people could learn to give, to share and to care. The most, sustainability can become a part of our daily, not just a subject in the classroom.
