Su-Ao Elementary School
!
1. Our school is located in the northeastern part of Taiwan, where it rains a lot. Monthly precipitation can reach 370mm. We have designed a rainwater harvesting system. The collected rainwater can be used for flushing. Rainwater piggy banks are equipped with communicating tubes, which can serve as a kind of teaching materials for children to learn about the benefit of harvesting rainwater.
2. The D building is east-west facing. In this project, we have replaced the old tubes with T5 tubes to save energy. In addition, we have made changes to the circuit. Four switches are now available. One switch is for the light tube above the blackboard. When using a projector, the lamp above the blackboard can be turned off. Another one is for the lamp at the center of the classroom. The other two are for the lamps installed at the right-hand and left-hand sides of the classroom. Lights can be switched on or off depending on the sunlight in the morning and afternoon. This, in turn, can help to save energy.
3. We have installed digital power meters for students to learn about the importance of saving energy. These power meters can serve as teaching materials and remind students to save energy and turn off lights when leaving.
