Chia Nan University of Pharmacy and Science proposed two major renovation plans for the 2013 Sustainable Campus Project. First, set up sunshades on the second floor of Teaching Building B. Second, increase the volume of reclaimed water for toilet flushing of the old campus site. The school!|s achievement on the conservation of wetland and water resources is the highlight of our efforts. We hope to further our efforts and fully utilize the water resources we have (the rainfall and the reclaimed water collected). Moreover, it is our hope to make what we have achieved a learning opportunity for our citizen when it comes to environmental education. This can prove to be a positive influence that the Sustainable Campus Project has on sustainable education.
1. Setting up sunshades for Teaching Building B
Most of the buildings in the school do not have the problem of heat caused by the exposure to sun. But some of the classrooms and offices are directly exposed to the sun and thus the room temperature could be very high. In order to conserve more energy and reduce the use of air conditioning, we have planned on setting up parallel sunshades outside of these rooms. However, so far we haven!|t had actual result that can help us evaluate the effects of setting up sunshades.
2. Increasing the volume of reclaimed water for toilet flushing of the old campus site.
So far several buildings have adopted the reclaimed water recycle system of constructed wetland thanks to the Sustainable Campus Project. The result of recycling proves to be effective and the recycled volume amounts to 60m3 per day. If we take into account of the amount of irrigation water, the recycled volume amounts to 120 m3 every day. We have attracted news media and education programs to make a special feature because of our outstanding achievement. We hope to extend the use of the recycle system that we have now and increase the volume of reclaimed water for toilet flushing. The recycled volume is estimated to increase to more than 80m3.
