I. Our goal for a sustainable campus includes low environmental pressure, energy saving, and green thinking.
II. The Sustainable Campus Project includes:
1. Low Environmental Pressure: resource conservation, low noise levels, and low pollution, which are internalized into the habit of the faculty and students. According to the blueprint of campus master plan, the revamping projects in 2012 (phase 1) and 2013 (phase 2) were extended, and the Sustainable Campus Project in 2014 (phase 3) was formulated. The classrooms on the west side were prone to direct sun exposure from the east, which caused an overheated indoor environment and glare that influenced the quality of class and students!| eyesight. As a result, in the third phase of construction, we plan to install venetian blinds at the upper limb of east-facing classrooms on the second floor located at the north side of the west building cluster. Venetian blinds will also be installed at the lower limb of door leaf in classrooms in addition to the indoor ventilation system and venetian blinds at the upper limb. This allows buoyancy-driven ventilation in classrooms after class and ensures indoor air quality.
2. Energy Saving: we implement the core values of environmental education and instill environmental ethics into students and teachers. We incorporate energy saving and resource conservation into the curriculum. In the Sustainable Campus Project, sun shades were installed at the classrooms in the west building to improve the indoor environment, reduce the use of light, and build a quality learning environment.
3. Green Thinking: we promote recycling, reuse, and green procurement to nurture an environmentally-friendly campus culture. The !§Green Drum Club!‥ is a feature of our school, which was established almost ten years ago. Through recycling and reuse, we have been able to revitalize the campus and provide students with a place to perform confidently. In 2012 and 2013, permeable pavement was installed in the front yard, but there was still room for improvement in terms of green coverage and permeability. In 2014 (phase 3), we plan to change the impermeable tarred pavement to a permeable one so that water can be conserved in the soil and that precooling effect can be achieved through evaporation. We also plan to build an ecological teaching farm during this phase of construction in the hope that we can turn our campus into an ecological teaching ground.
Since we signed up for the Sustainable Campus Project in 2012, as of the third phase in 2014, we have improved students!| learning environment and enriched ecological resources on campus. We have also been able to contribute to campus biodiversity and shape an environmentally-friendly culture.
