Tu-Ku Elementary School

The South in Taiwan --- Under 23.5ᵒC Sky ~ Rain and Sunlight !

  We form an ally with local elementary schools --- Guo-Yi (果毅), Ching-Shan (青山), Tu-Ku (土庫), An-Nei (岸內) --- as a center of eco education in south Taiwan. We aim to develop our campuses sustainably and turn them into local parks. We hope sustainability grows on the campus and walks into local communities.

       Our sustainable campus project focuses on the integration of eco education and local communities’ agricultural heritage and resources, so that schools can share their green experience and academic resources with local people.

       The following details our sustainable campus project in four aspects:

1.      Rainwater recycling: we collected rainwater from the roofs of our buildings and directed it to the eco pond for campus irrigation and for the aquatic plants in the pond.

2.      Energy recycling: we installed a photovoltaic solar power system on the campus to convert sunlight into electricity for ventilators and heaters.

3.      Energy saving: though the slope roof was used mainly for insulation, it also helped us collect rainwater. We monitored its performance and put it into eco education for insulation comparison.

4.      Healthy and green materials: we grew some climbing plants, so that they could lower the temperature in the kindergarten class and green the spaces.

       A sustainable campus is, in fact, one of the lifestyles of health and sustainability (LOHAS). And our project is the guide to the lifestyles. Whey studying at such a sustainable school, students learn sustainability and play with sustainability.
